Rio de Janeiro Statement on the Role of National Public Health Institutes in Facing Health Inequities

The Rio de Janeiro Statement on the Role of National Public Health Institutes in Facing Health Inequities was introduced during the 2021 IANPHI Annual Meeting by the meeting host, the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation, Brazil's public health agency. It was shared with IANPHI members for their comments and reviewed by the IANPHI Executive Board.

The statement urges IANPHI's member organizations to place the promotion of health equity at the core of their work. It encourages them to document existing inequities through dedicated surveillance or observatories, measure progress and bring evidence on public health interventions to reduce the widening gap of health inequities to decision-makers, and support their implementation.
