Tsehaynesh Messele

Dr. Messele was director general of the  Ethiopian Health and Nutrition Research Institute (EHNRI) from 2004 to 2011.Over her career, Dr. Tsehaynesh has been involved in HIV/AIDS research and programs and in the development and implementation of Ethiopia's first national laboratory strategic plan toward a future integrated system plan. Dr. Messele served as national program manager for Ethio-Netherlands AIDS Research Project (ENARP), which established a state of the art HIV laboratory.  She also was team leader for the  Immunohaematology/ Pathology Research Team, the head of the National Referral Laboratory for AIDS, the head of Immunohaematology and Virology/Rickettsiology Divisions, and a senior technical advisor for the Federal HIV Prevention and Control Office.

She has published and co-authored more than 60 publications in peer reviewed journals and book chapters. In 2002, the Ethiopian Public Health Association (EPHA) presented her with the "Young Public Health Researcher Award" for outstanding performance in public health research.
