Who We Are

The International Association of National Public Health Institutes – IANPHI – is a global initiative that aims to develop stronger and more coordinated public health systems through the development and support of national public health institutes – or NPHIs.

IANPHI is also a professional association for NPHI directors, providing a platform for advocacy and collective action in addressing public health challenges and opportunities.

  • Chartered: 2006
  • Leadership: IANPHI’s president is Jeffrey Koplan, director of Emory University’s Global Health Institute and former director of the US CDC. The vice-president is Pekka Puska, director general of Finland’s National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL). The eleven member Executive Board includes the directors of nine member institutes, the vice president and president.
  • Secretariat: IANPHI’s Secretariat is co-located in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, and Helsinki, Finland.
  • Members: We have 79 members from 74 countries and have supported 50 projects in more than 25 countries.
  • Funding: IANPHI is funded through a generous grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and through member dues.
