Tanzania: Expanding NPHI Scope

A pioneer in Africa in establishing the national Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response (IDSR) system for infectious diseases, Tanzania’s National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR) now plans to be a forerunner on the continent in the field of chronic disease surveillance.  However, breaking new ground in public health is not easy, especially with the interests of most development partners and funders directed toward infectious diseases.

IANPHI is filling this gap by providing peer assistance and financial resources for Tanzania to expand its expertise and capacity in the field of chronic diseases.
