Created for the World Health Organization to support its efforts to encourage the development of NPHIs, this fact sheet answers these questions: What are NPHI's and why are they important? IANPHI's long-term projects help public health systems in low-resource countries respond to modern public health challenges, improve outcomes, and support health populations and strong economies. As of August 2011, IANPHI was engaged in 10 long-term projects. »
Funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, IANPHI is a catalyst for NPHI development and collaboration. We aim to strengthen public health capacity in low-resource countries by strengthening NPHIs. Experts from IANPHI member institutes provide peer assistance and project support targeted at critical NPHI needs. »
A proven way for countries to carry out core public health functions is by consolidating and organizing public health expertise and infrastructure within a "national public health institute" (NPHI). »
