Training

IANPHI builds human capacity and provides a career path for public health professionals through a mentorship program and targeted training events.

Annual meetings and regional meetings each include technical and interactive sessions devoted to topics such as leadership development, strategic planning, risk communication, and conflict management.

In collaboration with IANPHI, Finland’s National Institute for Health and Welfare (THL) organizes an annual week-long course on the Role and Function of a Comprehensive NPHI. Held in June every year, the course provides opportunities for NPHI leaders to benefit from the expertise of THL technical and administrative staff.

In 2009, IANPHI conducted a workshop in Uganda on grant writing and grant management targeted to research and financial management staff at NPHIs in Africa. Participants included representatives from each of IANPHI’s member institutes in the region as well as participants from partner agencies of the host member, the Uganda Virus Research Institute (UVRI). The meeting was co-sponsored by UVRI, IANPHI, the European and Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP), and Global Health Progress.
