October 27, 2007
In collaboration with IANPHI, the UK’s Health Protection Agency (HPA) organized a workshop in London on October 25-26, 2007, to address the public health impact of international sporting events. Building on the experience of countries that have been involved in these events, the goal was to distill and share lessons learned by identifying the public health issues associated with a high-profile mass gathering and the public health benefits that might be derived from preparing for and conducting such an event.
The anticipated outcome is a “toolkit” of resources for countries that are hosting, or bidding to host, an international sporting event and for the IANPHI members that are supporting these efforts.
