FIOCRUZ (Brazil) visits IANPHI U.S. Office

April 16, 2014

The longstanding partnership between the two organizations dates back to IANPHI's launch in 2006 when FIOCRUZ was a founding member and hosted the first annual meeting. FIOCRUZ was a key author and editor of the IANPHI Framework for NPHIs, and has been instrumental in providing long-term technical assistance and mentoring to fellow NPHIs in Mozambique, Guinea Bissau, Cape Verde, and many others.

FIOCRUZ serves as one of the organizers of the RINS-UNASUR network, which hosts bi-annual meetings for NPHIs in Latin America. It also is a founding partner of the CPLP, through which numerous NPHI-to-NPHI collaborations have been fostered. In a lunch meeting Dr. Jeff Koplan thanked FIOCRUZ for its many contributions to IANPHI and its members; Dr. Paulo Gadelha, FIOCRUZ President, outlined several new opportunities for future collaboration including the role of NPHIs in addressing and assessing universal health care and the social determinants of health. The U.S. IANPHI Office applauds Dr. Gadelha and his team for their continuous good work, and looks forward to an ongoing partnership with FIOCRUZ.
