Swedish NPHI Merge

The Swedish government has presented a bill for IANPHI Member Swedish National Institute of Public Health (Statens folkhälsoinstitut, FHI) and Swedish Institute for Communicable Disease Control (Smittskyddsinstitutet, SMI) to be merged. Some duties related to public health data of the National Board of Health and Welfare (Socialstyrelsen) will also be transferred to the new authority.  A committee led by Dr. Johan Carlsson (Present Director General of the Swedish Institute for Communicable Disease Control) is preparing for the formation of the new Public Health Agency (Folkhälsomyndigheten) to start its operation January 1, 2014. The present Director General Dr. Sarah Wamala, has served at the Swedish National Institute of Public Health at different managerial positions for a total of 12 years. Now it is time for me to move on new challenges and will therefore not continue with the new Public Health Agency, says Dr. Wamala.  Follow Director General Sarah Wamala’s blog on the Swedish National Institute of Public Health website: http://www.fhi.se/Aktuellt/GD-Sarah-Wamalas-blogg/.
