2013 IANPHI Annual Meeting

2013 Annual Meeting

Arusha, Tanzania

An Invitation to IANPHI Members,

The next IANPHI annual meeting will be held outside the beautiful city of Arusha in northern Tanzania. The meeting will bring us together to network and discuss ways to address crucial issues that affect that health of our populations.

You will find Arusha a good place to work, have serious discussions, and finally relax. Arusha is near Mount Kilimanjaro and 240 km from Olduvai Gorge, the cradle of mankind, the Ngorongoro Crater, and several other national parks. The proposed site for the meeting is Ngurudoto Mountain Lodge on a coffee farm outside Arusha National Park.

I hope we can emphasize the public health problems in Sub-Saharan Africa and address them in the context of the post 2015 MDG agenda—issues like the dual burden of communicable and non-communicable diseases and how they can be addressed in the reality of our overburdened health systems. Women leaders in public health will be able to deliberate issues affecting women leaders in this field and the need to get more young women engaged so as to take up these leadership roles.

The Tanzania National Institute for Medical Research is proud to host this meeting and I look forward to seeing you in Arusha. I’m sure you can hear the beating of the drum in the distance calling you to Arusha in 2013. Late September and October is a pleasant time of year so please take this opportunity to see more of our beautiful country after the meeting.

Karibu sana (welcome)

Mwele Malecela
Director General, Tanzania National Instituite for Medical Research
