Becoming a Member

The Association is composed of Institutional Members, Associate Members, and Partners, as outlined below.

Process for Consideration

Membership

Organizations interested in an Institutional or Associate Membership may fill out the membership application form (pdf, 41 KB) and the NPHI Survey form (doc, 276 KB) and send them to Dr. Pekka Jousilahti, IANPHI Secretary General, at pekka.jousilahti[at]ktl.fi.

Application will be reviewed by the Secretariat, which makes recommendations to the Executive Board based on the information given by applicant. The Executive Board will consider membership requests; those which it approves are then submitted to the next General Assembly for final approval.

The Executive Board may decide to grant provisional membership in advance of the next General Assembly; however, voting rights will only be granted when Institutional or Associate members are officially confirmed.

Partnership

Organizations interested in a Partnership are required to fill out only the Membership application form and send it to Dr. Jousilahti at pekka.jousilahti[at]ktl.fi. Application will be reviewed and decided upon by the Secretariat within two months of receipt.

Membership/Partnership Criteria

Institutional Member: An Institutional Member is a National Public Health Institute that undertakes functions defined in the NPHI Framework (pdf, 289 KB) .The Secretariat will determine applicant's eligibility based upon how fully the organization meets the NPHI Framework criteria.

In cases where there are two or more institutes with NPHI functions in a country, two institutes may be institutional members but they have together only one vote in the General Assembly. The members may determine themselves their voting status or they may share the vote.

Associate Member: An Associate Member is an institute or organization from a country that does not currently have an NPHI but has potential for NPHI-creation or has been designated by the national government to create one.

Partner: An IANPHI Partner is an organization with which IANPHI has established a cooperative relationship in support of its mission. Partners may include foundations, professional societies, governmental funding agencies or other donors and groups whose public health focus is national, regional or global in scope.
