Moldova’s National Public Health Centre (NPHC) focuses on health promotion and disease prevention by overseeing activities in preventive field medicine and sanitation, public health surveillance and capacity building. and policy development.
With a staff of 320 people, NPHC plays a major role in Moldova’s public health. NPHC helped prevent the spread of disease after flooding in 2010. In the past year, NPHC has also developed a public health surveillance system, legislation, and hosted health workshops with NATO experts and participation from representatives from 34 countries. NPHC has WHO accreditation for laboratory investigations, virology, and as a sanitation domain.
NPHC’s five departments include: health promotion and NCD control; epidemiology, public health management and relations, research, and HIV/AIDS prophylaxis. Their activities include vaccinations, organization and public health policy, nuclear safety, national programs for disease prevention and control, and health promotion education.
The current director of NPHC is Dr. Bahnarel Ion.
