Established in 1923, the Croatian National Institute of Public Health is engaged in diagnostics, treatment, and disease prevention. The institute monitors all the factors that influence the health of the Croatian population with regard to infectious diseases, acute and chronic diseases, and food and water safety. The institute is also involved in laboratory diagnostics and analysis. The institute has a staff of about 100 and has five branches: Epidemiology of Infectious and Chronic Diseases, Health Studies, Social Medicine, Prevention of Addiction, and Microbiology
