A research institute under the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Southern Denmark, the national institute of public health employs approximately 100 people. Before January 2007, the institute was under the Danish Ministry of Interior and Health.
The purpose of the institute is to research the health and morbidity of the Danish population and the functioning of the health care system and to trainphysicians and other public health officials. The institute's research is focused on six programs:
